Kisugu Primary School on Ugandan TV

It was great to some familiar faces from Kisugu in this news clip that was shown on UgandanTV channel NTV. Eggs For Education have seen with our own eyes how some students spend the whole school day without a proper meal because they can’t afford it. These students need food so that they can concentrate in class and learn. Especially during hot school days.

Uganda Education News: Government urged to review school lunch policy

Bishop Zac Niringiye has called on parents to sacrifice their lunch during the forthcoming lent season and the month of Ramadath as they demand government to review its policy on school feeding to improve the quality of education.

This comes after the pass rate in the 2011 Primary Leaving Examinations declined by 1.6% as compared to the previous year which activists attribute to a number of reasons in the public education sector, among them failure by many pupils to have lunch at school.

Speaking at the launch of a campaign calling for citizen action over the current Public Education crisis, Bishop Niringiye noted with concern that the country’s education sector is facing triple tragedy of a crippling crisis of numbers, appalling failure rates and mismanagement.

Niringiye said that there is need for government to change its policies to increase the capitation grants for every child in UPE schools and also allocate funds to ensure all children have lunch at school because the policy of carrying food to school is no longer tenable.

He described the automatic promotion in UPE as a killer policy that undermines the desired competencies for a child to be promoted to the next class.
